Drinking enough water a day is essential to keep the body functioning properly. Water helps maintain energy levels, aid digestion, and get rid of toxins, among others.  As much as possible, individuals should drink approximately two to two and a half litres of water every day to prevent dehydration and other conditions.

Drinking water indeed provides several health benefits, but keeping yourself hydrated is easier said than done. Nonetheless, there are basic lifestyle changes to begin at home for people switching to a healthier lifestyle. To start with, Australians should make sure they are drinking healthy water by using a water purifier at home. With safe and healthy water at the turn of a tap, it will be easier to make a habit of drinking water and stay hydrated at all times.

Are you drinking enough water?

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, an average Australian drinks approximately 1.29 litres of water a day. This amount is below the recommended water consumption of health organisations of 2.5 litres for males and 2.0 litres for females. Anything less the recommended amounts are considered under consumption, increase the experience of various symptoms and lead to dehydration.

What are the symptoms of dehydration?

Several studies have shown that dehydration hinders overall body function. With a 2% loss of water content in the body, individuals may already experience dizziness, fatigue, headaches, body aches, and muscle cramps. They may have difficulty concentrating, experience mood swings, and have dry skin or bad breath.

Nearly 80% of adults in Australia suffer from chronic dehydration. This is an alarming percentage, especially when some parts and periods in Australia tend to have a very hot temperature. The body needs water to regulate temperature, and less consumption inevitably leads to heat exhaustion, headaches, nausea, and even heatstroke. Indeed, Australians need to be more mindful of their water intake to stay healthy.

The importance of drinking safe water

While preventing dehydration, many Australians experience gut issues when consuming water from the tap. Chemicals in tap water deplete gut microbiomes which are necessary for a healthy body. Depleted gut microbiomes lead to disorders in the skin, endocrine system, and immune system, among others. For this not to get in the way of achieving a healthy lifestyle, water has to go through purification to filter out harmful chemicals in drinking water. Fortunately, there is equipment specially made to achieve quality hydration.

Achieving quality hydration

Sufficient water consumption goes hand in hand with healthy water in transitioning to a healthier lifestyle. Both can be achieved by using a water purifier, which reduces contaminants in tap water. Any unpleasant odour and taste are also eliminated. It removes sediment and chlorine through a carbon cartridge, then proceeds to filter water in a fine membrane, removing lead and total dissolved solids (TDS). Lastly, water goes through one more carbon cartridge, producing high-quality water from the tap. This whole process is called the reverse osmosis purification system and can be conveniently installed underneath the sink.

Experts recommend drinking a glass of water early in the morning, if possible, as soon as waking up. Follow this through with seven or more glasses within the day to achieve the recommended two litres per day. These can easily be done once healthy water is accessible at the turn of a tap.
