Microsoft Surface Studio has been one of the most pleasant surprises in recent technology. This aspirational equipment has shown us that there is room for improvement in the field of PCs and laptops and they can, in fact, serve as inspiration for upcoming releases.
The Redmond boys’ proposal could actually create a trend, because Dell has posted a video in which it also seems to be preparing to launch its own adaptation of that idea. Dell may be just the first of many manufacturers to catch the eye of this new range of All-in-One PCs, and we hope that convertible All-in-One fever will spill over quickly.
The All-in-One Microsoft Surface Studio is a portent of engineering, but it is not a perfect device. Many users were amazed by that screen and that deployment mechanism, but at the same time, some criticized the hardware configuration of a computer that was not as ambitious as expected.
The biggest criticism falls on both the processor and especially on GPU, a GeForce 980M that even being decent for a modest device seems to be an unwise choice for a device of more than 3,000 euros like this. One would expect to be able to aspire to the new NVIDIA GTX 10×0 family, but in this case, we will have to put up with a solution that could be considered almost poor.
The fact is that what Microsoft is selling to you is not a processor or a GPU. The price is due exclusively to that prodigious screen of 4,500 X 3,000 pixels that also becomes a perfect canvas for any type of artist.
It would allow the users with other preferences to combine that reclining screen with a much more powerful, or even more modest, hardware, which would have made it possible for the solution to become one more element of a user customizable set. It does not look like that it will be a future option on the part of Microsoft, but fortunately it may appear as other alternative.
The idea is not really new, as Wacom has for some time been marketing its 27-inch Cintiq, a monitor with a resolution of 2,560 X 1,440 pixels which is precisely a good expression of this type of option.
Microsoft Surface Studio has discovered a trend that many are interested in. Although this device is very oriented towards artists and creative professionals, the possibilities offered by this type of equipment can attract a more general public, and it is where other manufacturers could take advantage of that option.
