It is interesting to know what level of Excel you have and can reach like levels in languages, especially if you are applying for a job in demanding knowledge about this program. You know that Excel is a software application that can perform numerical or mathematical calculations and also keep track of data and text.
As for the different levels based on my experience, I have made the following classifications of Excel users based on the mastery of certain Excel functions on their use of difficulty level. So the types of users would be as follows;
Beginner
They use Excel as a calculator for sums and products mainly, also to know input data and collect some information in the spreadsheet.
Basic
This level of user used simple Excel functions, especially mathematics such as divisions, percentages, some statistical function as media and counting such as AutoSum function in relation to data with simple filters with AutoFilter. Some easy graphics are also made. Changes of fast formats like colors and letter are used.
Intermediate
These users employ more advanced functions such as financial, statistics and some logic as IF function. They are able to work with graphics and edit them to change the design or information. More advanced formats such as conditional formats are used. They are also able to use forms to enter data.
Advanced
This type of user knows the most advanced Excel functions such as the search VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, logical as IF, AND, NOT and can perform the nested functions. They also perform Subtotals tool dynamic tables and charts, make recordings of simple macros, make different kinds of graphics, know and use fluently the resourced to import data from Access and .txt formats.
Expert
This is the type of excel user who dominates the Excel resources and is even able to program with VBA language. This user works with matrix functions such as advanced financials. They can import and consolidate data from a large number of external utilities and are able to configure and automate much of the work with sheets. They also have basic programming knowledge with which Macros work.
Excel Programmers
This user is a computer professional with expert level and/or advanced Excel, uses the program for advanced calculations, statistics, and combines Excel with other programs and dominates the programming with VBA.
Excel Financial or Accounting User
The have high level expertise in excel to deal with the financial or accounting. They usually have a level between Advanced and Expert and regularly use Excel in the company. They perform financial and statistical calculations with spreadsheets, uses analysis tools to develop their custom reports, and obtain data from other applications, mainly from accounting and billing programs.
Excel User for Analysis
You can see excel is a program that can serve the professionals of many walks of life and the analysts can take its advantage too since there are many Excel functions for analyst. Thus, excel makes a great program for people working with the statistics.
